ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway will be in action this Saturday, September 23rd for what is set to be one of the most intense nights of racing of the season in the Yes Chevrolet/Yes Ford Season Championships. While it is not the final race of the season, it is the final points race. With several close championship battles, the action is set to be intense. In addition to the final points race for all of the Ona Speedway divisions, the track will also host the big International event for the Pro Grand National Tour Baby Grand Stock Cars. Below is the preview of all of the action and points battles:
Pro Grand National Tour International Race
The Pro Grand National Tour Baby Grand Stock Cars host an International event each season. Ona Speedway is proud to be the host of the event this year. Typically, drivers from Canada and the United Kingdom come to compete in this race. One driver from the United Kingdom is confirmed for Saturday. The Baby Grand Stock Cars put on a show at Ona when they ran at the speedway last season. With it the series largest event of the year, the racing action is sure to be fun on Saturday in the class.
All Seasons Powersports Late Models
Jake Keaton is looking to clinch his third consecutive Late Model track championship on Saturday. Keaton will likely clinch the title just by starting the feature as he can clinch by finishing 11th or better. Behind Keaton, Gregg Carby and Jacob Bell are engaged in an intense battle for second in points. Carby currently holds a 3 point lead over Bell.
Patriot Meat Processing Modifieds
Jeremy Cooper is looking to clinch his second consecutive Modified track championship on Saturday. Cooper can clinch the championship by finishing 5th or better, a feat that he has been able to accomplish all season. Behind Cooper, Wes Smith and Andy Booten are engaged in an intense battle for second in points with Smith holding a 2 point advantage over Booten. Should Cooper have problems Saturday, Smith or Booten could walk away with the track championship. Smith would have to win and have Cooper finish 6th or worse and Booten would have to win and have Cooper finish 8th or worse.
Haunted Majestic Street Stocks
The Street Stock points battle is the closest of them all. Tommy Rowe and Kenny Chapman have battled each other all season long and come into Saturday tied for first in points. This will create a head-to-head battle on Saturday where the driver who finishes ahead of each other between Rowe and Chapman will win the 2023 track championship. We’ve seen this scenario play out in the past in other classes at Ona and it always creates an intense race. Should the car count be at 10 and Rowe and Chapman have trouble, there is an outside chance that Mike Christy or Chris Jividen would win the title. Christy can win the title by winning and Rowe and Chapman finishing 10th or worse while Jividen can win the title by winning and Rowe and Chapman finishing 11th or worse. Christy an Jividen are also engaged in their own intense battle for the final spot on the podium in the point standings with Christy holding a slim 1 point advantage over Jividen.
Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR’s
Chris Deskins is looking to clinch his second consecutive track championship in the UCAR division on Saturday. Deskins will likely clinch the track championship just by starting the feature as he can clinch by finishing 11th or better. David Adkins sits fifth in points, only one point behind Fowler and five points behind Workman and Cassidy.
Mays Tire & Service Center INEX Legends Car Pro
Jake Keaton will be looking to clinch his second track championship of the season and first in the Legends Cars on Saturday. With his win on September 9th, Keaton has a 7 point advantage over last year’s Semi-Pro track champion Dale Garrett. Keaton will clinch the track championship by finishing 7th or better. Dale Garrett, Will Geer, Jason Garrett and Tyler Martin are all alive in the championship battle, but will have to hope for trouble by Keaton to be able to win the track championship. Those four drivers are only separated by 2 points which will make for an intense battle for the final two positions on the points podium.
Jeffrey Trucking INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro
The Legends Car Semi-Pro division has the second closest points battle. Dunlap has a narrow one point advantage over Cline heading into Saturday. Dunlap and Cline are both carrying big momentum heading into Saturday as they have won the previous two races in the class. While Dunlap and Cline are the favorites to walk away with the championship on Saturday, if both drivers would run into trouble, it does open up the door for Jay Dunlap and Jeremy Dosier to potentially win the title. Jay Dunlap can win the title by winning and Rob Dunlap finishing 6th or worse and Cline finishing 5th or worse. Jeremy Dosier clinches by winning and Rob Dunlap finishing 10th or worse, Randall Cline finishing 9th or worse, and Jay Dunlap finishing 5th or worse. Jay Dunlap and Dosier are also involved in an intense battle for third in points as Dunlap holds a 4 point advantage over Dosier.
