ONA, WV-Labor Day Weekend will be a huge one at the Ona Speedway with two big events taking place on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th. The weekend will start with the West Virginia Roar & Soar Cruise In & Plane Show on Saturday before the One Way Septic Tank Service / Rent-A-Kann Firecracker Extravaganza takes over the speedway on Sunday night.
The West Virginia Roar & Soar Cruise In & Plane Show will take place on Saturday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm with nearly 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles expected to fill the Ona Speedway. This event gives spectators a very unique opportunity to walk around the historic Ona Speedway that once hosted NASCAR Cup Series racing while checking out classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles and more.
Aaron WeatherHolt will also be playing live music at the speedway from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm presented by Dboyz Racing. Spectator admission for the West Virginia Roar & Soar is only $7.
Anyone wanting to put their car, truck or motorcycle on display can register for only $10 with registration taking place from 7:00 am until 9:00 am. Cars will get one lap around Ona Speedway before parking on the track for the show. The first 50 cars, trucks and motorcycles registered will receive a special Roar & Soar dash plaque.
Trophies will be awarded for Best Rat Rod, Best Street Rod, Best Muscle Car, Best Motorcycle, Best 2WD Truck and Best 4×4 Truck. Airplanes are also welcome to fly directly into Ona Airpark with no registration fee.
Then on Sunday night, September 6th, the One Way Septic Tank Service / Rent-A-Kann Firecracker Extravaganza will bring a huge night of racing, giveaways, history and Cabell County’s most thrilling fireworks show to the speedway.
Drivers in all 8 Ona Speedway divisions will be racing for a special America 250 trophy that will go to the winner of each race. The All Seasons Powersports Late Models, Mountain Linked Modifieds, Skeens Towing and Recovery Street Stocks, Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR’s, Legends Depot INEX Legends Cars, Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vics, Complete Temperature Control Crazy Compacts and Keaton’s Collision Center Juice Boxes will all be in action.
The first 400 fans through the general admission gate will receive a special America 250 souvenir bracelet. During intermission, Ona Speedway will also celebrate a huge part of the speedway’s history with a Richard Petty tribute. Several pieces of autographed Richard Petty memorabilia will be given away as the speedway celebrates Petty’s 3 NASCAR Cup Series wins at Ona and the plaque presentation recently made in his honor.
After the final checkered flag falls, the lights will go down and the sky above Ona Speedway will light up with a huge fireworks show presented by Putnam County Bank and Bill & Lynn Bauer. This isn’t just a few fireworks after the races, this is a full fireworks show to close out one of the biggest nights of the season and send Labor Day Weekend out with a bang.
Pit gates will open at 1:30 pm Sunday while general admission gates will open at 5:00 pm. Racing will start at 6:30 pm.
General admission for the Firecracker Extravaganza is only $20 for ages 13 and up and FREE for ages 12 and under. All access pit passes are $35 for ages 13 and up and FREE for ages 12 and under.
