ONA, WV-It was an exciting night of racing at the Ona Speedway on Friday, July 15th for night #1 of the 3rd Annual Yes Chevrolet/Yes Ford Cabin Fever Bash.  This event was originally scheduled to open the Ona Speedway season in April but rain postponed the event to this weekend, making it a non-points race for the Ona Speedway classes.

The night started with the first of two 20 lap features for the Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR’s.  Danny Keyser would lead lap one with Joe Workman quickly moving through the field and passing Keyser to take the lead on lap two.  Nick Fowler, who started the race in last due to a complete field invert, quickly moved his way into the second position and set his sights on Workman.  Fowler wouldn’t be able to close in any on Workman though as Workman led the remaining laps to claim his second feature win of the season!  Fowler finished second with Tim Cassidy third, Reuben Fetty fourth, and Keith Watson fifth.

Cam McKinney took the lead to start the nights 15 lap McCam Builders Classic Car feature.  McKinney would have Kenny McCallister right his bumper for much of the opening lap.  Going into turn one on lap 2, McCallister found an opening underneath McKinney and went to his inside to battle side by side for the lead!  Coming off of turn two, McKinney’s car got loose and spun around collecting McCallister. McKinney was charged with the caution and McCallister got his spot back.  On the restart, McCallister led with McKinney quickly moving back into second.  McKinney battled with McCallister for the lead and on lap 5 made a high side pass to retake the race lead.  For the remainder of the race McCallister stayed right on the rear bumper of McKinney but would never be able to make the pass as McKinney came across the checkered flag to take his fourth feature win in a row!  McCallister finished second with Mark Cazad third.

Brad Cooper jumped to the lead to start the 20 lap Greg Chandler Frame & Body Sport Mod feature with J. R. Adkins and Chad Bailey engaged in an intense battle for second.  After a couple laps of side by side racing, Bailey passed Adkins to move into second and set his sights on Cooper.  Bailey quick ran down Cooper as Tyler Brown passed Adkins to move into third and set his sights on the top two.  On lap 6, Bailey caught Cooper as Cooper, Bailey, and Brown were all nose to tail in the battle for the lead!  On lap 8, Cooper slipped high into turn one, allowing Bailey to get underneath of him and take the lead with Brown following through for second.  Once up front, Bailey would stretch away from the field and come to the checkered flag to take his first feature win of the season in his first start of the season!  Brown finished second with Adkins third and Cooper fourth.

Brett Carey took the lead to start the 30 lap Bumper Pounding Street Stock feature with Marty Powers quickly moving into second.  Powers pressured Carey for the lead and on lap three sent his machine to the high side to battle side by side then pass Carey to take the race lead.  With Powers stretching his lead out front, Chris Jividen and Carey battled for second with Jividen making that pass on lap 7 and setting his sights on Powers.  A caution flew on lap 9 for a spinning Lexy Lambert, resulting in a restart that had Powers and Jividen side by side.  On the restart, Powers was able to clear Jividen and continue with the race lead while Jividen and Carey battled side by side for second.  On lap 11, Jividen got a little too high off turn four and slammed the outside guardrail, bringing out another caution and ending Jividen’s night.

On the restart, Carey sent his machine into turn one hard on the outside and it stuck, allowing Carey to bypass Powers and retake the race lead!  The next lap, Powers wrestled the lead back from Carey to retake the lead on lap 13.  Powers started to pull away from Carey as Tommy Rowe began to catch Carey for second.  On lap 18, Rowe and Carey battled side by side for second into turn three with Rowe spinning and bringing out the caution.  Rowe would be charged with the caution and would have to go to the tail.  On the restart, Powers contined wit the lead with Carey safely in second.  On lap 24, Carey began to slow from the second position as his car would come to a stop, setting up a 6 lap dash to the checkered flag.  On that restart, Powers continued to lead with Rowe passing Clinton Thompson to move into second.  Rowe set his sights on Powers and got right to his bumper to battle for the lead!  Rowe tried both high and low but wouldn’t be able to make the pass as Powers came to the checkered flag to claim his first career Street Stock win!  Rowe finished second with Thompson third, Clark Perry fourth, and Lexy Lambert fifth.

The final race of the night was the second Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR feature that would see a complete field invert from the finishing order of race #1.  Unfortunately, race #1 winner Joe Workman would not be able to start after breaking an axle in race #1.  On the start, Keith Watson stormed to the race lead with Nick Fowler moving into second and right on the bumper of Watson.  Watson and Fowler battled hard for the lead for several laps until lap 7 when Fowler and Watson made contact going into turn one, causing both drivers to spin.  Fowler was charged with the caution and Watson was given his spot in the lead back.  On the restart, Watson’s car appeared damage from the accident as Tim Cassidy would get by Watson to take the race lead.  Cassidy would pull away and lead the remaining 12 laps to take his first win of the season!  Reuben Fetty finished second with Fowler third, David Adkins fourth, and Watson fifth.
