ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway was jam packed with kids on Saturday, June 10th for Express Employment Professionals Kids Night.  With inflatables and reptile shows from The Reptile House & Rescue, there was plenty going on in the tracks midway area and a ton of action on track.

The night’s racing action got started with the 20 lap Gumbo Stop Cafe Crazy Compact feature.  Stacie Watson jumped out to the early race lead with Thomas Bailey tucked in right behind her.  Watson and Bailey battled hard for the lead for several laps in a thrilling race with Bailey eventually making the pass on lap 11.  Once in the lead, Bailey would start to pull away while Watson had a good gap on an intense third place battle between Rex Burton and Andy Ennis as those two battled side by side for most of the race.  Bailey would go on to lead the remaining laps and claim his first victory of the season!  Watson finished second with Burton third, Ennis fourth, and Tommy Ross fifth.

Andy Booten and Jeremy Cooper battled side by side for the lead to start the 20 lap Patriot Meat Processing Modified feature.  Cooper would use the high side momentum coming off of turn 4 to lead lap one and then clear Booten going into turn one.  Cooper would start to pull away from Booten while Booten would be in an intense, race long battle for second with Wes Smith.  Watching Booten and Smith battle was almost like watching a dirt track race as both cars were loose and sideways going around the track in a thrilling battle.  Cooper would go on and lead the remaining laps to claim his second straight feature win to start the season!  Booten finished second with Smith third, J. R. Adkins fourth, and Stephen Kuhn fifth.

Adam Jeffrey outdueled Rob Dunlap using the high side to lead the opening lap of the 20 lap Jeffrey Trucking INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro feature.  While Jeffrey pulled away up front, the racing was intense from second on back between the Dunlap brothers, Randall Cline, and Jeremy Dosier.  The race was unfortunately marred by two red flags as Kenny McComas spun and Elijah Johnson had nowhere to go and hit McComas early in the race.  With three laps to go, Jeremy Dosier got loose off of turn 4 while running in third and slammed the inside guardrail.  All drivers walked away uninjured.  On the final restart with 3 to go, Jeffrey would pull away up front while the battle for second was intense between Cline and last weeks winner Jay Dunlap.  Jeffrey would lead the final 3 laps and come across the checkered flag to claim his first career win!  Cline scored his best career finish in second while Dunlap finished third, 80 year old Teddy Berry fourth, and Dean Brotherton fifth.

Ohio drivers Rich Gleason and Chad Pendleton dueled for the lead in the opening laps of the 20 lap All Seasons Powersports Late Model feature.  Gleason led the first two laps while Pendleton decided to go high on Gleason and take the lead to lead lap three.  The following lap, Jacob Bell would go high around Gleason and try to chase Pendleton.  Nobody would have anything for Pendleton though as he led the remaining laps to take his first win at Ona since 2020!  Bell finished second with Gleason third and John Morton fourth.

One of the most intense races of the night was the 20 lap Mays Tire & Service Center INEX Legends Car Pro feature.  Last weeks winner Tyler Martin jumped out to the lead while the battle for second on back was intense.  Dale Garrett moved into second in the opening laps while his older brother Jason Garrett was in an intense duel with Will Geer for third.  Geer stayed on the high side for multiple laps trying to make it work, but eventually jumped back in line in fourth.  The Garrett brothers would then have an intense battle for second with Jason making the pass on Dale to move into second on lap 13.  Nobody would have anything for Martin as he led every lap in the caution free race to take his second feature win in a row!  Jason Garrett finished second while the battle for third was a literal photo finish between Geer and Dale Garrett!  It was one of the closest finishes for a position in recent memory as Geer finished third with Dale Garrett fourth.  Matthew Martin rounded out the top five in fifth.

Tim Cassidy utilized a bump draft from Jay Workman on the races start to power past David Adkins and take the lead on lap one of the Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR feature.  Adkins and Workman battled for second in the races early stages with Workman moving into the position.  While the top three separated themselves, the most intense battle was for fourth between Keith Watson, Michael Hughart, and Nick Fowler as they dueled for that position all race.  Nobody would have anything for Cassidy as he led every lap to claim his first feature win of the season!  Workman finished second with Adkins third, Watson fourth, and Hughart fifth.

The final race of the night was the 20 lap Haunted Majestic Street Stock feature which saw Mike Christy jump out to the race lead.  The battle for second was intense all race long between Clinton Thompson and Kenny Chapman.  Nobody would have anything for Christy all race long as he led the remaining laps to take his first feature win at Ona since 2019!  Thompson had his best finish since 2021 with a second place finish while last weeks winner Chapman finished third.  Tommy Rowe finished fourth with Amanda Gollihue in fifth.

The Ona Speedway will be off next weekend but will return to action on June 23rd and 24th with one of the biggest events of the season, the 4th Annual K&J Demolition & Excavation Firecracker Extravaganza!  The track will have two big nights of racing with the weekend culminating with one of Cabell County’s biggest fireworks shows on June 24th.  For more information visit www.onaspeedway.com.
