ONA, WV-With a forecast that has not budged all week calling for an 80-90% chance of rain on Saturday, and now a Flood Watch in effect for the region, Ona Speedway officials have made the difficult decision to cancel the races for Saturday, June 27th. With such a high likelihood of inclement weather, speedway officials wanted to go ahead and make the call early.
The One Way Septic Service Firecracker Extravaganza will be rescheduled to Labor Day weekend with the race now held on Sunday night, September 6th with a huge fireworks show ending the night. The race will be a non-points race since it will be on a weekend that wasn’t on the original schedule. The America 250 trophies and America 250 bracelet giveaway will also be given out on September 6th.
This will setup a massive Labor Day weekend at Ona Speedway as the track will host the 4th Annual West Virginia Roar & Soar Car & Plane Show on Saturday, September 5th then have the One Way Septic Service Firecracker Extravaganza on Sunday, September 6th.
“It always sucks to have to postpone an event, especially with everything we had planned to gear this weekend towards a Independence Day celebration”, stated track promoter/operator T. J. Layne. “When we looked at the best options on a weekend fireworks would work good, Labor Day weekend seemed like a perfect fit. With West Virginia Roar & Soar and the Firecracker Extravaganza all in one weekend, we are really excited about what we will have in store now on Labor Day weekend.”
Ona Speedway will be in action next on Saturday, July 11th with RECO Products Kid’s Night. In addition to a full racing program with all Ona Speedway divisions, there will be a massive obstacle course setup in the midway area for the kids to play and have fun on.
