ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway is proud to announce that it will be sanctioning it’s Legends Car divisions with INEX for the 2021 season. This will apply to both the Southern Ohio Speed Legends Car Pro and the Keaton’s Collision Center Legends Car Semi-Pro divisions.
The INEX sanctioning will allow Ona Speedway drivers the opportunity to earn INEX national points at all Ona Speedway events this season. All Legends Car drivers will be required to purchase an INEX membership license to compete in events at Ona. Memberships can be purchased at www.inexseries.com or at the speedway on any raceday.
The INEX membership provides many benefits to a driver. First, the license allows drivers to compete in races at any INEX sanctioned track in the United States. This includes several tracks within a 5 hour drive of Ona in the Carolina’s and Virginia, Barberton Speedway in Ohio, and Summer Shootout events at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Second, INEX members have an insurance policy that combined with the tracks insurance, will cover up to $80,000 in medical expenses if a driver were injured at the track.
In addition to competing for national points, INEX also keeps state and regional points. Drivers will receive points for the state championship in the state that they live in. For example, a driver living in Ohio but races at Ona, would be earning points for the Ohio state championship. A driver living in West Virginia would receive points for the West Virginia state championship. As far as we have seen, Ona Speedway will be the only INEX sanctioned track in the state of West Virginia. INEX state champions are honored with a plaque/trophy and parts credit from INEX.
In regards to the class being split into two divisions at Ona, both the Southern Ohio Speed Legends Car Pro and Keaton’s Collision Center Legends Car Semi-Pro classes will receive full INEX points each night. A drivers eligibility for each class will be determined by a criteria that Ona Speedway has set and will announce soon. Drivers will receive INEX national points in either the INEX Pro, Semi-Pro, Masters, or Young Lions based upon what classification they fall into with INEX, not based upon what class they run at the track. For example, a driver may run the Southern Ohio Speed Legends Car Pro Class at Ona, but be earning their INEX points towards the Masters classification.
INEX is America’s third largest sanctioning body with more than 3500 members. INEX is a subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports, LLC, which owns 7 speedways that host NASCAR Cup Series races. The INEX sanctioning will help bring Ona Speedway drivers into the national Legends Car scene as well as help bring more out-of-town drivers to compete at Ona in select events.
Any questions teams have about the sanctioning can be directed to track promoter Thomas Mays, track PR T. J. Layne, or by messaging the Ona Speedway Facebook page.
