ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway is proud to release its schedule for what is set to be an exciting 2024 season. The 2024 schedule will include 13 race nights and 7 practice nights with visits from the Midwest Modifieds Tour, Vores Compact Touring Series powered by Mercer County Electric, and CRS Super Trucks.
The season will get underway with 4 consecutive weeks of action. Cars will hit the speedway first on Saturday, April 13th for a preseason Test N’ Tune that will feature open practice all day long. The season will then officially get underway the following week on Saturday, April 20th with the Cabin Fever Bash featuring all 7 of Ona’s weekly divisions.
The following week will see one of the biggest shake-up’s on the season schedule with the annual Mountaineer 100 moved to a spring date on Saturday, April 27th. While having the event in the fall has been successful car count wise, three consecutive seasons of poor attendance for the event has led speedway management to shift the event to the spring where there is no direct competition with football and fall festivals.
This year’s Mountaineer 100 will see the Modified portion of the event sanctioned for the first time by the Midwest Modifieds Tour, one of short track racing’s premier touring series. The Midwest Modifieds Tour will bring the best Modifieds in the region to Ona to compete against Ona’s best in what will be an excellent 50 lap feature. The Street Stocks will also be competing in a big 50 lap feature to make the 100 laps for the Mountaineer 100. Late Models, UCAR’s, INEX Legends Car Pro, INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro, and Crown Vics will also be competing in increased purse races as is traditional with the Mountaineer 100.
The Vores Compact Touring Series will visit Ona for the 4th Annual Bryce Keyser Fly By 40 presented by Freedom Used Autos on Saturday, May 18th. The Vores Compact Touring Series will see the best compact drivers in the country come to Ona to do battle against Ona’s best. Ona drivers are 3 for 3 in the event with Tim Cassidy winning two of the three events.
The CRS Super Truck Series will visit Ona for the 5th consecutive season with the Midland Trail 30 on Saturday, August 3rd. The name of this years race is a throwback to the 2013 ARCA Truck “Midland Trail 150” race that was held at Ona that saw Bobby Dale Earnhardt, grandson of Dale Earnhardt, and Dirt Late Model star Devin Moran compete.
Crown Vics take Ona by storm as a new weekly class this season. The class will have a new premiere event at the speedway, the Country Roads 50 that will take place on Saturday, September 7th. The Crown Vics will battle for 50 laps in what is sure to be an exciting race.
Fan promotions will be a big highlight of the season as the speedway looks to have special things going on during race nights. The annual Firecracker Extravaganza will return on June 29th with one of the region’s largest fireworks shows. Following a huge success last year, Kids Night will return on June 15th. Putnam County Bank Throwback Night will return as we celebrate the rich history of the speedway. The season will conclude on October 19th with the annual Trick or Treat Night that has became a favorite for fans and drivers alike. New events in Stars Wars Night and Back to School Night will have special themed promotions.
Weekly racing will be a huge focus at the speedway this season. Each class will get to compete during each race night this season. With an increased purse for each division as well as the tire limit rule for the Late Model, Modified, and Street Stock division, the weekly racing this year is set to be as good as it’s ever been. All races will be points races except for the October 19th event, and the Midwest Modified Tour event for Modifieds and Vores Compact Touring Series event for UCAR’s.
With the start of the season still three and a half months away, there could still be some additions on the racing card in the form of a touring division or special race added to some of the dates. The race dates and rain dates however, are set so teams can plan vacations around these dates. The West Virginia Roar & Soar Car & Plane Show will still take place this season with a date to be announced soon.
