ONA, WV-Following a successful 2020 season, the Ona Speedway has announced an aggressive 2021 schedule that will feature a total of 14 nights of racing with 4 different touring series.

The first on track action of the season will be two pre-season Test N’ Tunes on Saturday, April 17th and Saturday, April 24th. The season will officially get underway in a big way with the “2nd Annual Cabin Fever Bash” on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st. 9 different divisions will compete over the two days with the opening race of the Midwest Modifieds Tour headlining the weekend with their 50 lap show on May 1st. The Midwest Modifieds Tour, which competes at other historic speedways such as Winchester Speedway, Anderson Speedway, and Kalamazoo Speedway, is sure to bring some of the best Modified drivers in the country to Ona.

The CRS Super Truck Series, which competed a Ona twice in 2020, will return to the track on Saturday, May 22nd for a 50 lap feature event. The CRS Super Truck Series is looking promising for a big field of trucks to follow the tour in 2021 and is sure to put on some great racing action once again. Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Mods, Street Stocks, Classic Cars, Legends Cars Pro, and Legends Cars Semi-Pro will also be in action on this night.

The second of three two-day shows will take place on Friday, June 25th and Saturday, June 26th with the “2nd Annual Firecracker Extravaganza” featuring 9 classes of racing over the 2 days. The event will culminate with the popular fireworks show at the end of the night on June 26th.

USAC Midgets once competed at Ona 50 years ago when Dick Clark owned the track. In 2021, a USAC sanctioned event returns to Ona with the USAC Eastern Speed2 Midget Series making their debut at the speedway on Saturday, July 10th. Last season, the USAC Eastern Midget Series raced at tracks in North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arizona. Late Models, Street Stocks, Classic Cars, U Cars, Legends Car Pro, Legends Car Semi-Pro, and Crazy Compacts will also be on the racing card.

The best compact drivers in America will come to Ona Speedway on Saturday, August 21st with the VORES Compact Touring Series “Freedom Used Autos Fly by 40.” The VORES Compact Touring Series, which can be seen on MAV TV, competes at the biggest short tracks in the United States, visiting speedways such as Bristol Motor Speedway, 5 Flags Speedway, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Winchester Speedway, and Lucas Oil Raceway among many others. This will be the largest compact race in Ona Speedway history and will be one of the higher paying races on the VORES schedule.

The “Freedom Used Autos Fly By 40” will also be the championship race of the VORES Short Track Challenge, a 5 race mini-series at tracks that the VORES Series competes on that is under a half mile. The series will lock in 12 drivers the first race at Anderson, then eliminate 2 drivers every race until the finale at Ona where 6 drivers will race for a championship!

This year’s prestigious “Mountaineer 100” will once again be a 2 day format and is set for Friday, October 1st and Saturday, October 2nd. 9 divisions of racing will compete over the weekend, all culminating with the Mountaineer 100 Modified race featuring a 100 lap feature for the money and prestige of being a Mountaineer 100 champion.

The Ona Speedway weekly racing series will be in full force throughout the spring and summer months. There are a couple of changes that have been made to the weekly racing program. First, the Hobby Stock class has been re-named “Street Stocks” for 2020. Rules will remain the same, it is simply a name change to be consistent with other tracks.

With a large field of Legends Cars expected this season that will likely way exceed a full field, the Legends Cars will be split into two classes in 2021. We will be running the Legends Car Pro class and the Legends Car Semi-Pro class. More information will be announced at a later time regarding which class drivers would fall into. We look forward to this change to allow each Legends Car driver to race in a feature each night, compete against drivers they are more comfortable competing against, and create an even simpler barrier to entry for the class.

All races in the spring and summer months will be points races (except for the Midwest Modified Tour race for Modifieds and VORES Compact race for U Cars) with the points championship decided on Saturday, September 11th for the Season Championships featuring all 9 classes. We will be utilizing an earlier 6 pm start time on that night. The track has also built in designated Rain Dates on the schedule to make up any races that had been rained out up to that point. This move will allow teams and fans to schedule vacations easier.

Standardized feature lap distances have also been put in place for 2021 (except for specials for each class). In the Late Model, Modified, Street Stock, U Car, and Classic Car classes, features will be 30 laps if 10 or more cars, 25 laps for 8-9 cars, 20 laps for 6-7 cars, and 10 laps for 5 or less cars. For Sport Mods, both Legends Car classes, and Crazy Compacts, features will be 20 laps if 10 or more cars, 15 laps if 6-9 cars, and 10 laps if 5 cars or less. Ona will once again run feature races only in 2021, no heat races.

Last year’s popular Trick or Treat Night will also return in 2021 with it being scheduled on Saturday, October 23rd. That will be the final race of the 2021 season and will feature an earlier 5:00 pm start time. The cars will be lined up on the frontstretch and fans will be able to come down and meet their favorite drivers who will have candy for the kids.

Ona Speedway will once again feature the best bargain in short track racing in 2021. For regular shows, general admission prices will remain $10 for ages 16 and up, $5 for ages 11-15, and FREE for ages 10 and under. For special events, general admission prices will be $15 for ages 16 and up, $10 for ages 11-15, and FREE for ages 10 and under. Pit passes will be $30 for regular shows and $35 for special events.

The Ona Speedway also invites local businesses to be a part of the action as sponsorships for all race nights are currently available. Please contact Thomas Mays ASAP to reserve your race sponsorship before they all sell out. Race sponsorships give you naming rights to the race and is included in our PR and advertising which reached over 100,000 people in the region each month last season.
