ONA, WV-After several weeks off due to weather, the Ona Speedway was back in action on Sunday, July 16th for the first Sunday race at the speedway in 10 years.   Weather postponed Saturday’s One Way Septic Mid-Season Championships to Sunday where fans and drivers were met with hot and sunny weather conditions.  Some teams were unable to make it with it a Sunday rain date, but fans were still treated to an exciting show.

The afternoon started with the 20 lap All Seasons Powersports Late Model feature.  14 year old Carson Lucas jumped to the lead with Jake Keaton immediately moving into second and challenging Lucas.  The two stayed bumper to bumper for the first four laps with Keaton looking to the inside of Lucas to make the pass and take the lead on lap 4 with Gregg Carby also passing Lucas to move into second.  The races first caution would fly the following lap when Jacob Bell and Joe Fihe would make contact with Bell spinning and Fihe charged with the caution and Bell given his spot back.  On the restart, Keaton continued with the lead while Fihe quickly moved back into the fourth position and battled Lucas for third.  Nobody would have anything for Keaton the rest of the race as he would come across the checkers to claim his second feature win of the season!  Carby finished second with Lucas third, Fihe fourth, and Jacob Bell fifth.

Jay Workman battled Nick Fowler side by side for the lead at the start of the days 20 lap Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR feature and used the high side momentum to lead lap one.  With Workman up front, the battle was intense for second between Fowler and Chris Deskins with Deskins making the pass on lap 4.  Deskins would set his sights on Workman but would never be able to come any closer than 1.5 seconds to him as Workman would come across the checkered flag to take his first win of the season!  Deskins finished second with Fowler third, Keith Watson fourth, and David Adkins fifth.

Stacie Watson dominated the first of two Gumbo Stop Cafe Crazy Compact features to lead every lap and claim her second win of the season.  Evan Strickland finished second in his first ever race with Evan Proctor third, Andy Ennis fourth in his second ever race, and Rex Burton fifth.

Jeremy Dosier and Adam Jeffrey battled side by side at the start of the days 20 lap Jeffrey Trucking INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro feature.  Dosier led lap one while Jeffrey would pass Dosier the following lap to lead lap two.  The battle then shifted for second between Dosier and Rob Dunlap with Dunlap making the pass for second on lap 7 after an intense battle.  After moving into second, Dunlap started to close in some on Jeffrey, but as the race wore on Jeffrey would extend his lead and come across the checkered flag to claim his second feature win in a row!  Dunlap finished second with Dosier third, Randall Cline fourth, and Dean Brotherton fifth.

Jake Keaton took the lead to start the days 20 lap Mays Tire & Service Center INEX Legends Car Pro feature.  Fast qualifier Will Geer, who drew a three invert, made a daring pass on the second lap as he went three side to pass Dale Garrett and Jason Garrett to move into the second position.  Geer then set his sights on Keaton and quickly caught him as the two battled bumper-to-bumper for the lead.  Geer tried every way to get around Keaton but was unable too over the next 10 laps.  On lap 12, the races first AirTech Heating & Cooling caution flag flew for debris.  On the choose rule restart, second place Geer decided to stay inside while Jason Garrett went high to go from fourth to restart alongside Keaton.  On the restart, Keaton and Garrett battled side by side for the lead with Keaton getting the edge off of turn two and Geer also passing Garrett to move back into second.

Three laps later, the races second AirTech Heating & Cooling caution flew as a result of a spin by Zach Steele.  As the race was at 5 laps to go, it would be a single file restart.  On the restart, Keaton and Geer continued their intense battle for the lead.  The two were nose to tail going into turn three with two laps to go and made contact off of turn four with Keaton spinning.  Geer was charged with the caution and went to the tail while Keaton was given his spot back.  On the restart, Keaton led the final two laps to come across the checkered flag and take his first Legends Car win of the season at Ona!  Jason Garrett finished second with Dale Garret third, Will Geer charging back to finish fourth, and Zach Steele fifth.

Mike Christy took the lead to start the days 20 lap Haunted Majestic Street Stock feature while Tommy Rowe moved into the second position.  Rowe quickly caught Christy as the two battled for the lead.  On lap 5, off of turn four, Christy slipped high, allowing Rowe to get underneath of him and take the lead!  Rowe would lead the remaining laps to come across the checkered flag and take his first career win!  Kenny Chapman passed Christy early in the race to move to second and finish second with Christy third and Chris Wheeler fourth.

Josh Artis moved from third to first by the end of lap one to take the lead in the days 20 lap Patriot Meat Processing Modified feature.  Andy Booten quickly moved into the second position while Wes Smith battled with J. R. Adkins for third.  Smith would pass Adkins on the high side and set his sights on Booten.  With Artis pulling away up front, the most intense battle of the race was for second between Booten and Smith.  The two battled bumper to bumper for the remaining laps.  On the final lap, Booten and Smith would make contact into turn three with both cars getting crossed up.  The drivers would collect themselves as Artis came across the checkers to claim his first win of the season while Booten finished second and Smith third!  Adkins finished fourth with Adam Keasling fifth.

The final race of the night was the complete invert race for the Gumbo Stop Cafe Crazy Compacts.  Rookie driver Andy Ennis would pass Rex Burton at the start of the race and move into the lead.  Evan Strickland would move into second and get right on Ennis’ tail.  Strickland would then look high and battle side by side for the lead with Ennis while Proctor and Stacie Watson were side by side for third behind them!  The race resembled a NASCAR restrictor plate race as the front two rows stayed side by side lap after lap!  Strickland would lead lap 5 with Ennis leading laps 6-9, Strickland leading lap 10 at the line.  On lap 10, while side by side with Ennis, Strickland would hit the turn two guardrail and bring out the AirTech Heating & Cooling caution.  On the restart, Ennis would lead while Stacie Watson would get around Proctor and move into second.  Watson would make her move with two laps to go and pass Ennis to take the lead.  Watson led the remaining two laps to complete the perfect sweep of fast time and winning both feature events!  Proctor passed Ennis to finish second with Ennis third, Rex Burton fourth, and Tommy Ross fifth.
