ONA, WV-Night #1 of the 4th Annual K&J Demolition & Excavation Firecracker Extravaganza saw a rare Friday night race at Ona Speedway.  The night was hyped as the biggest Friday night show in Ona history and lived up to that with the racing action that was seen.

The night started with the 30 lap All Seasons Powersports Late Model feature.  Chad Pendleton took the lead at the start with Jake Keaton tucking right behind him in the second position.  For the entirety of the race, Pendleton and Keaton were never separated by more than a couple car lengths as they stayed nose to tail lap after lap in an intense battle for the lead.  Keaton looked low and high, even giving some taps to the bumper of Pendleton’s #22.  In what was a great display of awesome, clean racing action, Pendleton would hold off Keaton by a car length at the finish line to claim his second win of the season!  Keaton finished second with Gregg Carby third, Carson Lucas fourth, and Joe Fihe fifth.

Jay Dunlap stormed to the lead to start the nights 20 lap Jeffrey Trucking INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro feature.  With Dunlap leading, Adam Jeffrey quickly moved into the second position and began battling with Dunlap for the lead.  The two battled lap after lap with Jeffrey making the pass on lap 9 to take the lead.  Once in the lead, Jeffrey began to pull away while the battle remained intense for the second position between Dunlap, Jeremy Dosier, and Randall Cline.  With two laps to go, Dosier would move into the second position.  Jeffrey would come across the finish line to take his third win of the season while a thrilling final lap saw Cline finish second with Dunlap third, Dosier fourth, and Dean Brotherton fifth!

The night’s 30 lap Haunted Majestic Street Stock feature would prove to be intense as the winner of this race would be eligible for an $850 bonus if they won Saturday’s race courtesy of The King of Karaoke Larry Adkins, The Fly In Cafe, Dalton Parsons, and T. J. Layne.  Mike Christy would take the lead at the start while Kenny Chapman quickly moved into the second position.  Christy and Chapman, longtime Ona Speedway veterans would have an intense battle for the lead as Christy wrestled his car around the track with a lose condition.  Chapman would finally go underneath of Christy and take the lead on lap 10.  The races first AirTech Heating & Cooling caution flag would fly on lap 14 for a spin by Clinton Thompson.

The upcoming restart would see the choose rule come into effect big time as the front three cars chose low while fourth place Thomas Mays chose high along with fifth place Tommy Rowe.  On the restart, Chapman would lead with now Mays and Rowe having an intense side by side battle for the second position.  Rowe would eventually clear Mays to move into second and set his sights on Chapman.  Rowe would get too within a half second of Chapman, but wouldn’t be able to make the pass as Chapman came across the checkers to claim his second feature win of the season by a slim 0.328 tenths of a second!  Rowe finished second with Chris Jividen third, Mike Christy fourth, and Chris Wheeler fifth.

The final race of the night would be the headline race, the prestigious Firecracker 40 for the Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR’s.  Chris Deskins would jump to the lead at the start while an intense battle for second place occurred between David Adkins and Jay Workman.  After a few laps of battling side by side, Workman would clear Adkins and set his sights on Deskins who quickly jumped out to a 2.5 second lead.  With such a long race still left, Workman was consistently a half a tenth to a tenth faster than Deskins.  As the laps wore on, Workman kept eating into Deskins lead as the race remained green.  By the time the race hit lap 30, Workman cut the lead down to 0.250 tenths of a second!  That’s as close as Workman would get though as Deskins would pull away in the final laps to across the checkered flag and claim his second win of the season!  Workman finished second with Tim Cassidy third, David Adkins fourth, and Nick Fowler fifth.
