ONA, WV-65 race cars filled the pits at the Ona Speedway on Saturday, October 22nd for the annual season ending Finish Line Concrete Trick or Treat Night. In addition to all of the exciting racing action, fans took to the track during intermission for the always popular trick or treat on track with all the race teams.
The night started with the 20 lap Geer Brother’s Body Shop INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro feature. Newton Moore took the lead at the start with Will Geer quickly moving into the second position and challenging Moore for the lead. On lap 2, things got crazy as Jeremy Dosier’s #23d machine went hard into the guardrail as he jumped tires with another car and flipped violently. Thankfully Dosier walked away uninjured but he as well as Dale Garrett would both be done for the race. On the restart, Geer was able to move around Moore and set sail the rest of the race to claim his 5th feature win in a row! Mike Gue came through the field to finish second with Cole Sowards third, Adam Jeffrey fourth, and Newton Moore fifth.
Rick Watson took the lead at the start of the 15 lap Greg Chandler Frame & Body Sport Mod feature and never looked back to claim his second feature win in a row! Behind Watson, one of the best battles of the season took place for the second position between J. R. Adkins and Brad Cooper, Adkins and Cooper battled side by side for the position for about 8 laps with Adkins finally clearing Cooper to take the second position. Cooper finished third with Kassidee Bush in fifth.
Greg Carby wrestled the lead away from Joe Fihe to start the night’s 20 lap Keaton’s Collision Center Late Model feature with Jacob Bell quickly moving into second. Carby pulled away to a 1 second lead early in the race with Bell slowly but surely cutting into his lead. As the laps wound down, Bell continued to close in on Carby as coming to the white flag the two were nose to tail! Bell gave Carby a shot to the bumper into turns 1 and 2 but Carby maintained the lead. Into turn three, Bell gave Carby another couple shots to the bumper but Carby remained unphased as he came across the checkered flag to claim his first feature win of the season! Bell finished second with Joe Fihe third, John Morton fourth, and Mike Burcham fifth.
Jerry Graley and Tyler Martin battled hard for the lead at the start of the night’s 20 lap Southern Ohio Speed INEX Legends Car Pro feature. Graley would hold off Martin to lead the first three laps until the caution flew for a Rob Dunlap spin. On the restart, Martin used highside momentum to wrestle the lead away from Graley and lead lap four. Meanwhile, the racing through the field was furious as on lap 6 Thomas Crabtree and Steve Swann made contact with Swann hitting the turns 3 and 4 guardrail hard. Swann would walk away from the crash but would be done for the race. On the restart, another scary accident happened as a stuck throttle sent Scott Martin wide open into the turn 3 guardrail in a ferocious crash. Martin would also walk away from the crash. On the restart, Martin would lead the remaining laps to come to the checkered flag and claim his second feature win of the season! Matthew Martin finished second with Graley third, Crabtree fourth, and Jason Tolliver fifth.
Kenny Chapman took the lead to start the 20 lap Bumper Pounding Street Stock feature with Tommy Rowe quickly moving into the second position. Rowe would catch Chapman as the two battled nose to tail for the lead. On lap 4, through turns 3 and 4, Rowe would give Chapman a shot to the bumper battling for the lead with Chapman spinning and hitting the guardrail. Rowe would be charged with the caution and have to go to the tail while Chapman was able to continue on and would regain his spot in the lead. On the restart, sixth place starter Brett Carey would use high side momentum to wrestle the lead away from Chapman and lead lap 5. Chapman would not go away though and would stay right with Carey the remainder of the race, but not have enough to make the pass as Carey came to the checkered flag to claim his third feature win of the season! Chapman finished second with Rowe charging back to third, Keith Watson fourth, and Joe Erwin fifth.
Jeremy Cooper took the lead at the start of the 15 lap McCam Builders Modified feature and seemed poised to victory until two laps to go. While going through turns 3 and 4, coming to the white flag, Cooper got held up by the lap car of Brian Payne, allowing Andy Booten to charge to his high side and by side by side with him through turn 4! Off the corner and down the straightaway, Cooper looked low while Payne looked high as they went three wide into turn one on the final lap! Cooper would clear the two and come to the checkers to claim his sixth feature win of the season in dramatic fashion! Booten finished second with Rick Watson third, Wes Smith fourth, and Payne in fifth.
One of the largest Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR fields of the season took the green flag for their 20 lap feature with Joe Workman taking the lead on lap one. Workman would go unchallenged in what was a caution free race to come to the checkered flag and claim his third feature win of the season! Tim Cassidy finished second with David Adkins third, Keith Watson fourth, and Nick Fowler fifth.
Stacie Watson would lead all 10 laps of the Snap Lawn and Handyman Crazy Compact feature to take her fourth feature win of the season! David Harris and Preston Hysell had a great race long battle for the second position with Harris finishing second and Hysell third.
Gary Chapman took the lead to start the nights 10 lap McCam Builders Classic Car feature while Cam McKinney tucked right behind him in second. On lap 2 into turn one, Chapman and McKinney made heavy contact with both cars slamming the outside guardrail. Chapman would be done for the race while McKinney would continue on. On the restart, McKinney would take the lead and lead the remaining laps to claim his fifth feature win of the season. Mark Cazad finished second with Chapman in third.
