ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway will return to racing this Saturday, August 6th for One Way Septic Night featuring the return of the CRS Super Trucks for their annual visit to Ona. After a rainout on July 23rd and an off week on July 30th, race teams will be anxious to hit the track for another night of short track racing the way it’s supposed to be on Saturday.
The CRS Super Truck Series carries a lot of momentum into Ona on Saturday. The series has always produced ultra exciting racing and has had a big car count boost this season, averaging 13.5 Trucks for each points race this season. The series last raced last Saturday night at the Painesville Speedway as Spencer Stineman came from the 9th starting position to take the win. Brandon Huff and Brad Copen, both CRS Super Truck winners at Ona over the past couple seasons, finished 3rd and 4th respectively. Copen leads the series in wins with three and won last years race at Ona. The series is set to run a big 50 lap feature on Saturday as only three points races remains on the series 2022 schedule.
Saturday will also mark the debut of Proctorville, Ohio’s Carson Lucas at Ona. Lucas, at only 13 years of age, has became a familiar name around Ona Speedway through racing the virtual Ona Speedway iRacing Series, doing some exhibition laps during intermission, and as a honorary flagmen. Lucas ran his first laps in a Late Model at Ona in a private test session in 2020 and went on to win the ARCA/CRA JR Late Model championship in 2021. In 2022, Lucas is chasing the CRS Super Trucks championship and has already scored a win with the series in Springport, Michigan. Lucas will be doing double duty on Saturday in the CRS Super Truck and Keaton’s Collision Center Late Models.
In addition to a full slate of action with the CRS Super Trucks, the Keaton’s Collision Center Late Models, McCam Builders Modifieds, Bumper Pounding Street Stocks, Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR’s, Southern Ohio Speed INEX Legends Car Pro, Geer Brother’s Body Shop INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro, and Snap Lawn & Handyman Crazy Compacts will all be in action for feature races only. With the loss of the July 23rd race due to weather, the tight battles for the Ona points championships will heat up even more as all classes either have 2 or 3 points races remaining. Drivers will no doubt be racing hard to try to gain max points on Saturday with races running out in the battle for the track championships.
For the first time since May, the track will also host a practice night on Friday, August 5th. The CRS Super Truck teams and all Ona Speedway weekly divisions will be welcome to bring cars for open practice. Practice will run from 5:00 pm until dark. Pit passes are only $5 while the cost to practice a race car is only $20. Several CRS Super Truck teams are expected to be in attendance for extra track time on Friday.
With a 50 lap CRS Super Truck feature and the tight points races in the weekly divisions racing, Saturday will no doubt be a can’t miss race. Pit gates on Saturday will open at noon with general admission gates opening at 4 pm. The start time will be earlier due to all the classes running as racing will start at 6 pm. A complete raceday schedule is posted on the event tab on the website. General admission is only $15 (ages 15 and up), $10 (ages 11-14), and free for ages 10 and under. Race fans can upgrade their experience with an all access pit pass which is $30 for ages 15 and up, $15 for ages 11-14, and free for ages 10 and under.
