ONA, WV-After rain washed away the season opening weekend for the Ona Speedway back on April 29th-30th, the track is now set to open it’s season with another mega event, the 2nd Annual Freedom Used Autos Fly By 40 on Saturday, May 14th.  The event will be headlined by the second ever trip to Ona from the Vores Compact Touring Series.

The Vores Compact Touring Series is the premier compact series in America.  The series races at some of America’s most iconic short tracks including Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, 5 Flags Speedway, Winchester Speedway, Lucas Oil Raceway, and more.  Most of the series races, including the May 14th event at Ona, are broadcasted on Racing America.

Last season, the Vores race at Ona brought in 41 entries from 5 different states.  A similar number of entries is expected this season.  Despite all of the series travelers in attendance at the race, it was Ona Speedway regular Tim Cassidy who took the win in the 40 lap feature last year.  The win was extra special for Cassidy as it occurred at his home track in a race that was sponsored by the company he owns.

In addition to the big Vores Series race, the McCam Builders Modifieds, Bumper Pounding Street Stocks, Greg Chandler Frame & Body Sport Mods, McCam Builders Classic Cars, Southern Ohio Speed INEX Legends Car Pro, and Geer Brother’s Body Shop INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro will all be in action for feature races only.

General admission on Saturday is only $15 for ages 15 and up, $10 for ages 11-14, and free for ages 10 and under.  All access pit passes are only $30 for ages 15 and up, $15 for ages 11-14, and free for ages 10 and under.  Pit gates open at noon with general admission gates opening at 4:00 pm.  Racing will start at 6:00 pm.  Weather conditions permitting, there will be skydivers skydiving into the speedway during the pre-race national anthem.

The speedway will also be open on Friday, May 13th for open practice from 4:00 pm until dark.  There will be a hauler parade from the Huntington Mall into the speedway on Friday.  The haulers participating in the parade will meet at 3:30 pm at the mall and will be led by the Cabell County Sheriffs Department and Barboursville Police Department.
