ONA, WV-The first fall race of the 2021 season was met with beautiful weather as a good field of cars was in attendance to do battle in the Fall Clash.
The night started with the 20 lap Chandler Auto Performance Crazy Compact feature. Tyler Bailey and Evan Proctor battled for the lead at the start with Bailey taking the lead and Proctor tucking into second. As the laps wore on, Bailey began to inch away up front. The best battle on track for most of the race was for third between Shane Summers and Stacie Watson. After a near 10 lap battle for the position, Watson finally made the pass on Summers late in the race. Up front, nobody would have anything for Bailey as he led every lap to claim his second feature win in a row! Proctor finished second with Watson third, Summers fourth, and Preston Hysell fifth.
Andy Booten and Jason Garrett had an incredible side by side battle for the lead in the opening laps of the nights 20 lap McCam Builders Modified feature. For the first 4 laps, Booten and Garrett battled side by side for the lead with Booten down low and Garrett up high. Garrett’s high side momentum allowed him to lead at the finish line each lap as the races first caution flew on lap 4 for debris. On the restart, Garrett would be down low as the race leader with Booten now restarting on the outside front row. At the green on the restart, Garrett and Booten barreled into turn one side by side for the lead as Booten’s car snapped loose and slammed hard into the guardrail. Booten was ok but would be done for the race. On the restart, Garrett continued with the lead while the best battle the remainder of the race was for second between Steve Hass and Wes Smith. Garrett would lead the remaining laps to come across the finish line and take his second feature win in a row! Hass finished second with Smith third, Jamie Womack fourth, and Marty Powers fifth.
2021 track champion Keith Watson took the lead at the start of the night’s 30 lap Contempo Trophy & Awards U Car feature with Kyle Snodgrass settling into second and David Adkins in third. For the first half of the race, the top 6 cars spaced themselves out but as the race reached the halfway mark the cars began to bunch back together as they worked heavy lap traffic. Watson maintained a healthy lead up front while Adkins caught Snodgrass in a battle for second through traffic. After several laps of dicing through traffic and battling for the spot, Adkins made the pass to move into second with Tim Cassidy following Adkins to also pass Snodgrass to move into third. With 2 laps to go, perhaps the most dramatic moment of the race occurred as Jacob Bell and Snodgrass made incidental contact battling for fourth with Bell moving into the position and Snodgrass saving the car. Watson would come across the checkered flag to claim his second win of the season with Adkins in second, Cassidy third, Bell fourth, and Snodgrass fifth.
Rookie driver Aaron Auffant took the lead at the start of the night’s 20 lap Southern Ohio Speed/Keaton’s Collision Center INEX Legends Car feature while fast qualifier Jake Keaton quickly moved into second. Auffant would lead lap one with Keaton right on his bumper. On lap 2 down the backstretch and into turn three, Keaton looked under Auffant to take the lead. With Keaton leading, an intense battle for the second position took place between Auffant and Geer. Geer would make the pass and take the second position while Keaton inched away up front. A caution flew on lap 10 for debris which signaled a good break for Zach Steele who dropped to last after a half spin into the infield on the opening lap. At that point, Steele had moved back into the 5th position. On the restart, Keaton continued with the lead with Geer in second. On lap 13, a caution would fly for Steele who spun on his own in turns 1 and 2.
On the restart, contact was made between Corey Steinbrecher and Will Geer with Steinbrecher charged with the caution and going to the tail. This setup a frantic final 7 laps with Steinbrecher and Steele, two of the fastest cars in the race, now having to come from the tail. On the restart, Keaton continued to lead while Auffant made the pass on Geer to move back into second. Keaton would lead the remaining laps to come across the checkers and take his first Legends Car win of the season! In an impressive feat, this made Keaton a winner in three different classes this season (Late Model, Modified, Legends Car). Auffant would score his best career finish in second with Geer third, Dale Garrett fourth, and Steinbrecher fifth.
The final race of the night proved to be the most wild in the Rocky Top’s Pizza Street Stock feature. Brett Carey would take the lead at the start with Chris Jividen moving into second. For the first several laps, it was a four car battle for the lead between Carey, Jividen, Clark Perry, and Kenny Chapman as the front four were all nose to tail! Things got wild on lap 8 as the leaders approached Lexi Jividen to put her a lap down. Off of turn 4, Carey and Perry went under Lexi while Chris went high to go three wide down the front stretch! As the leaders barreled into turn one, Jividen and Perry made heavy contact with Jividen spinning and then being hit by Chapman. Jividen would be done for the night.
On the restart, Carey would lead into turn one while Perry and Kenny Chapman made heavy contact for second with Perry spinning. Perry would go to the tail for coming down on Chapman and Chapman got his spot back. On the restart, Carey led with Chapman right on his bumper and Perry on Chapman’s bumper with the top 3 cars making contact in a 3 car battle for the lead! On lap 11, with Carey and Chapman on the bottom, Perry looked high going into turn 3 to battle side by side with Chapman. Chapman’s car drifted up and made contact with Perry into three. The two continued to make contact through the corner and off of turn 4 with Perry almost completely sideways. Down the frontstretch the two continued to make contact as they now went into turn one. In turn 2 with Perry sideways from contact with Chapman, Chapman’s car drove completely over the front of Perry’s car and into the guardrail to bring out a caution. Chapman would be done for the race while Perry continued with a damaged car.
On the restart, Carey continued with the lead while Perry and Tommy Rowe battled side by side for second. After a few laps of battling side by side, Perry set his sights on Carey who now had a one second lead. In one lap, Perry erased Carey’s lead as the two were nose to tail at the line in a battle for the lead! For the remaining laps Perry tried everything he could to get around Carey, going high and low, but would never be able to make the pass as Carey came across the checkers to claim his second feature win in a row! Perry finished second with Rowe third, Lexi Jividen fourth, and Chapman fifth.
