ONA, WV-Saturday, November 8th will be a special night at Ona Speedway as it will be the 1st Annual Marty Powers Memorial race. Marty Powers was a huge member of the Ona Speedway family; a former track champion that raced in the Modified, Sport Mod, Street Stock, Legends Car and Classic Car divisions throughout his long career. Marty loved Ona Speedway and was responsible for bringing countless new people to the track, many of whom became racers themselves at Ona. Marty will forever be known for his smile and positive attitude he always had.
Marty’s final race that he ran at Ona was in the Eco-First Street Stock division. Marty had switched to the class and found much success. It is fitting that the 1st Annual Marty Powers Memorial will be the largest Street Stock race in Ona Speedway history. The Street Stocks will race two times on Saturday with the first 30 lap feature paying $1,000 to win and $200 to start. The winner of the first feature will draw for an invert to set the field for the second feature which will be a 50 lap, $1,500 to win and $300 to start show. There will also be a $400 Hard Charger Award in the second feature courtesy of Matthew Hagood Racing. Street Stocks have always been known for putting on great racing at Ona Speedway as this race is sure to be a can’t miss race.
In addition to the huge Street Stock races, the track will also be racing the All Seasons Powersports Late Models plus host the Asphalt vs Dirt Challenge for the Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Cars and Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vics. The race for those divisions will feature an increased purse based upon car count and challenges the regions dirt track drivers to come and do battle with Ona’s best as well as drivers from other asphalt tracks. The top finishing dirt driver in each division will win a $50 bonus (as long as 3 or more dirt drivers are in attendance).
With the time of year it is, everything will get underway early with pit gates opening at 10:00 am and general admission gates opening at 12:30 pm. Racing will start at 2:30 pm with the goal to have all racing completed in the daylight. General admission is only $15 for ages 13 and up and FREE for ages 12 and under. All access pit passes are $35 for ages 13 and up and FREE for ages 12 and under. All ticket sales are cash only at the ticket gate.
