ONA, WV-Following a rainout last weekend, the Ona Speedway is set for one of it’s biggest and most anticipated season openers in it’s 62 year history this Saturday, May 10th. The Vores Compact Touring Series will bring America’s fastest compacts to the speedway for it’s highest paying race of the season, the Bryce Keyser Fly By 80 presented by Freedom Used Autos. NASCAR Legend Ken Schrader will also be competing in a Vores Compact car, driving the #8 owned by Danny Keyser.
Ken Schrader, a 29 year veteran of the NASCAR Cup Series, has long been known to race almost anything that has wheels, whether it be on an asphalt or dirt surface. Schrader is a winner in the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, NASCAR Pinty’s (Canada) Series, along with many other racing series. He has also been a race track owner, race team owner, TV personality with the Inside Winston Cup show, and currently stars in a podcast on Dale Jr’s Dirty Mo Media platform named “Herm & Schrader” with longtime friend Kenny Wallace. It’s difficult to find someone who has meant more to American motorsports than Ken Schrader. Watching Schrader compete in an 80 lap Vores Series race at Ona is going to be quite the show for the race fans.
The Vores Compact Touring Series races at many of America’s premier short tracks and will bring cars from several different states to Ona. In what has been an incredible feat, the previous three appearances from the series at Ona have all been won by Ona Speedway regulars with Tim Cassidy winning in 2021 and 2023 and Nick Fowler winning in 2022. This race always presents an incredible battle between Ona’s best and the Vores Series best. Nearly 30 cars are expected to be in attendance for the Vores Compact Touring Series.
Saturday will also be historic as it will be the first race on several new sections of asphalt that were put down over the offseason. The new asphalt is expected to make speeds faster and dramatically change how drivers race the track. The feedback from drivers during track rentals is that the racing is going to be very interesting as drivers transition from old to new sections of asphalt. This is just another thing that is goin gto make Saturday’s races even more exciting.
In addition to the Vores Compact Touring Series, the All Season’s Powersports Late Models, LG Pressure Washing Modifieds, Eco First Street Stocks, Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Cars, Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vics, and Keaton’s Collision Center Juice Boxes will all be in action for feature races only.
Pit gates will open at 1:00 pm Saturday with general admission gates opening at 5:00 pm. Racing will begin at 6:30 pm. General admission is $15 for ages 13 and up and FREE for ages 12 and under. All access pit passes are $35 for ages 13 and up and FREE for ages 12 and under (with an accompanying adult).
