ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway was in action on Saturday, October 19th for an incredible night of racing with Carpenter’s Repair Trick or Treat Night and the Nitro Construction Services Triple Crown. 66 cars from at least 6 different states were in attendance for the action packed night of racing.
The night started with a battle between the Garrett brothers in the Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car feature. Jason Garrett led lap one while Dale Garrett regained the lead on lap two and set sail until the Dutch Miller Automotive competition caution flew. On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Jason Garrett was able to take the lead from his younger brother while a good battle ensued for the second position between Jessie Binkley and Dale Garrett. Jason Garrett would come across the checkered flag first but would be disqualified in tech for being 1/8th inch off on ride height. This would give the win to Jessie Binkley with Dale Garrett second, Tyler Ledbetter third, Scott Martin fourth, and Nate Dunlap fifth. Dunlap was scored the Semi-Pro winner as the highest finishing Semi-Pro.
The Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vic feature saw a thrilling battle between Kenny McComas and JR Adkins for the first 10 laps with McComas leading. Buck Purtee joined the battle as well until he slowed on lap 8 to bring out a yellow. Adkins would see his way around McComas on lap 11 and lead the remaining laps to take the win! Purtee finished second with John Laforest third in his first ever race, Karsyn Maxey fourth, and Shane Mclane fifth.
Kent Baledge took the lead to start the nights Baby Grand Stock Car feature. Baledge led the first seven laps in what was a thrilling race until Danny Trent took the lead on a lap 8 restart. One out front Trent pulled away to lead the remaining laps and take the win! Baledge finished second with Justin Gareis third, Jake Tretow fourth, and Randy Roper fifth.
Gregg Carby driving the Danny Marcum owned #02 led every lap in what was a close All Seasons Powersports Late Model feature to take the big $1,000 win! Carby held off pressure from Joe Fihe nearly the entire race as the battle was bumper to bumper for several laps. Fihe finished second with Jordan Tramelle third and Jim Newman fourth.
Outside pole sitter Jeremy Cooper took the lead at the start of the 30 lap LG Pressure Washing Modified feature and never looked back to lead all 30 laps and claim the $1,000 win! A good battle occurred for most of the race for second with Steve Hass making the pass on Jamie Womack to take the position. Womack finished third with Rob Dunlap fourth and Benny Hickle fifth.
Outside pole sitter Tommy Rowe took the lead to start the 30 lap Haunted Majestic Street Stock feature. Polesitter Jason Skeens quickly dropped through the field and would pull off a few laps later with mechanical problems. On a lap 8 Tri-State Stoneworks restart, seventh place starter Buck Purtee took advantage of the choose rule to start alongside Rowe. On the restart, Purtee took the lead from the outside. Once to the lead, Purtee never looked back and led the remaining laps to take the $1,000 win! Rowe finished second with Kenny Chapman third, Mike Christy fourth, and JR Webb fifth.
Joe Workman and Jay Workman battled nose to tail for the lead for the first 12 laps until the two would make contact with Joe spinning. Jay would be the Dutch Miller Automotive caution car and go to the tail while Joe would get his pot back. On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Joe Workman would continue with the lead while Chris Deskins moved into the second position. Workman and Deskins battled bumper to bumper every lap in what was the closest, most fierce battle for the lead all year in the division. Meanwhile, Jay Workman came from the tail and charged through the field to battle in the front pack!
A late race Dutch Miller Automotive caution would see Jay Workman move into the second position and battle Joe Workman in the closing laps! The two once again got bumper to bumper but Joe Workman would hang on and take the exciting $1,000 C&M Air Compressor Repair/3 Vets Heating & Cooling 30! Jay Workman finished second with Deskins third, Keith Watson fourth, and David Adkins fifth.
