ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway was rocking on Saturday, June 29th for the annual One Way Septic Firecracker Extravaganza. The night would see a lot of great racing action on track and would end with an incredible fireworks show. Speedway officials had their eye on the weather radar all day and evening long. Just a couple minutes after the fireworks show, the heavens opened up and a severe thunderstorm hit the speedway. At that point the show had already been called due to the impending weather with all feature races completed and only the Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR Dark Horse Dash race remaining.
The night started with the 20 lap All Seasons Powersports Late Model feature. The night seemed poised to be Jake Keaton’s night early in the going as he jumped out to the lead at the start and led the first 10 laps until the Dutch Miller Auto competition caution flew. On the choose, Jacob Bell was the only car to choose high, allowing him to start along side Keaton for the Tri-State Stoneworks restart. On that restart, Bell would get a great start from the high side and clear Keaton off of turn two to take the lead! Keaton then went right to Bell’s bumper as the two went to war battling for the lead in what was a hard, clean race. After several laps of battling nose to tail, Keaton made his move on Bell on lap 17 to take the lead and led the races final three laps to claim his 5th feature win on the season. Bell finished second with Mike Burcham third and Carson Lucas fourth.
JR Adkins, the current Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vic points leader, debuted a new car and would lead the first lap of the classes 20 lap feature. Jamie Womack would then make the pass on Adkins on lap two and would dominate the remainder of the race to claim his second win on the season! Adkins finished second with Karsyn Maxey third and Shane Morris fourth.
Tim Cassidy took the lead to start the nights 30 lap Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR feature and would lead until the races first Dutch Miller Auto caution would fly on lap 5 for a slowing Donovan Shull making his racing debut. On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, fast qualifier Jay Workman would move into second and battle with Cassidy for the lead. The two battled lap after lap with Workman making the pass on Cassidy on lap 12 to take the lead. Once in the lead, Workman pulled away and looked destined for victory until another Dutch Miller Auto caution would fall on lap 26 for a slowing Reuben Fetty. On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Workman would lead and then the next lap would slow with mechanical problems, bringing out another Dutch Miller Auto caution. Workman falling out of the race would put Cassidy in the lead as Cassidy would lead the final three laps and come across the checkered flag to claim his first win of the season! Chris Deskins finished second with Nick Fowler third, Preston Hysell fourth, and Danny Keyser fifth.
What would be a thrilling 25 lap LG Pressure Washing Modified feature started with outside pole sitter Andy Booten taking the race lead. Booten would run the first several laps of the race with Wes Smith right on his bumper in the battle for the lead. Then Jeremy Cooper would get by Smith and set his sights on Booten as they ran bumper-to-bumper for the lead until the Dutch Miller Auto competition caution fell on lap 13. On the choose, Wes Smith chose the high side allowing him to start alongside Booten on the Tri-State Stoneworks restart. Smith would battle with Booten for the lead on the highside a couple laps but would eventually fall back, allowing Cooper to get second. Cooper and Booten would then go to war again for the lead and the two would make heavy contact on lap 18 with both cars spinning. Booten would be charged with the caution and go to the tail while Cooper would inherit the race lead. On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Cooper would lead the final six laps to claim his second consecutive win! Smith finished second with Booten third and Danny Vickers fourth.
Trouble struck on the opening lap of the 20 lap Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car feature as Dale Garrett and Scott Martin would make contact off of turn 2 on the first lap with Martin spinning to the infield and Garrett getting hard into the turn two guardrail. Garrett would walk away uninjured but would be done for the race while Martin would be able to continue. On the second attempted start, Jason Garrett quickly moved from his fourth place starting position to pass all three cars in front of him and take the race lead on lap one. Once in the lead Garrett would start to inch away from the field while Tyler Martin, Scott Martin, and Randall Cline all engaged in a great race from second on back. Garrett would lead the remaining laps to claim his fifth win of the season! Tyler Martin would cross the checkered flag second but did not go to tech and was disqualified per the Ona Speedway rule book. This moved Scott Martin into the second place finishing position with Randall Cline third, Jay Dunlap fourth, and Teddy Berry fifth. Dunlap would be credited with the Semi-Pro class win as he was the highest finishing Semi-Pro driver.
The nights 30 lap Haunted Majestic Street Stock feature nearly saw disaster at the start as Marty Powers, Amanda Gollihue, and Kenny Chapman went three wide off of turn two! Powers and Gollihue would make contact with Powers going up on his side, nearly flipping his #99 machine. Thankfully Powers car would stay on an four’s and spin into the infield. All cars would be able to continue on. On the second attempted start, Mike Christy would take the lead with Tommy Rowe in second. The racing behind Christy and Rowe was as intense as it could get between Chris Jividen, Powers, Chapman, and Chris Wheeler. The hard battling between the drivers would result in a Dutch Miller Auto caution on the lap following the competition caution as Chapman and Jividen would make contact with Jividen spinning. Chapman was charged with the caution and would have to go to the tail while Jividen would continue on and get his spot back.
On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Marty Powers would choose high and start alongside Christy. Christy would continue with the lead with Powers in second, right on his bumper! The two would then go to war battling bumper-to-bumper for the race lead. The hard battle would boil over with six laps to go as the two made contact going into turn one causing both of them to spin! The call from the track officials was a spinner-spinnee but Powers would tap out, taking claim for the accident and would go to the tail while Christy would get his spot back in the lead. Christy would get a great restart and lead the final six laps to come across the checkered flag and take his first win of the season! Rowe would finish second with Chapman third, Powers fourth, and Jividen fifth.
