ONA, WV-The Ona Speedway was in action for race #4 of the 2024 season on Saturday, June 15th with Express Employment Professionals Kids Night.  The night was one of the most exciting nights of racing of the season as the fans were treated to an incredible show that saw 8 feature races and 195 laps of racing with the complete show done at 10:00 pm.

The night started with the 25 lap All Seasons Powersports Late Model feature.  Jake Keaton stormed to the lead from the outside pole while Mike Burcham ran in second with Jim Newman third and Joe Fihe fourth for the entire first 13 laps of the race up until the competition caution.  On the choose, all drivers decided to say low except for Fihe who chose the high side, putting him side by side with Keaton on the restart.  On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Keaton continued with the lead while Fihe was able to jump down low in front of Burcham to move into the second spot.  Fihe and Burcham then had a great battle for second for the remainder of the race.  Keaton would lead the remaining laps to take his fourth feature win of the season while Fihe would hold off Burcham for second!  Newman finished fourth with Jacob Bell fifth.

The story all season long in the Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vics has been incredible racing between JR Adkins and Jamie Womack.  This was once again the case in the nights 20 lap feature for the class.  Womack took the lead at the start while JR Adkins ran nose to tail with him for the entire first 10 laps before the competition caution.  On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Womack and Adkins battled side by side for the lead with Adkins getting into the guardrail in turn 2 on lap 11, bringing out the Dutch Miller Automotive caution.  On the restart, Adkins quickly moved back to second and caught Womack to battle him for the lead.  Adkins was able to get to his bumper, but wouldn’t have enough as Womack came to the checkered flag to take his first win in the class!  Adkins finished second with Shane Mclane third and Karsyn Maxey fourth.

Steve Hass took the lead to start the nights 25 lap LG Pressure Washing Modified feature while Jeremy Cooper quickly moved into the second position and was right on Hass’ bumper.  The two stayed bumper to bumper for the first 9 laps until on lap 9 the two made contact with Hass spinning, bringing out the Dutch Miller Automotive caution.  Cooper tapped out, allowing Hass to get his spot back and Cooper going to the tail.  On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Wes Smith was now in second and battled Hass bumper to bumper for the lead.  The two battled nose to tail the next four laps until they would make contact with Hass spinning.  Smith would tap out, allowing Hass to get his spot back and Smith going to the tail.  On the restart, this setup another fierce battle between Hass and Cooper.  The battled bumper to bumper until Cooper was able to muscle by Hass on lap 20 to take the lead!  Cooper would lead the remaining laps and come to the checkered flag to get his first win of the season!  Smith finished second with Hass third, Rob Dunlap fourth, and Danny Vickers fifth.

The 25 lap zMax Pro Grand National Tour Baby Grand Stock Car feature started with Justin Gareis taking the lead from the pole.  All eyes were on fourth place starter Kent Baledge who quickly moved through the field and into the second position to battle Gareis for the lead.  After several laps of battling nose to tail, Baledge made the pass on Gareis to complete lap 13 as the field came to the competition caution.  On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Baledge continued with the lead while Garies and Jake Tretow then engaged in an intense battle for the second position.  Baledge looked bound for victory until a Dutch Miller Automotive caution on lap 22 for a Randy Roper spin would setup a three lap shootout to the end.  On the restart, Baledge would hold off Gareis the final three laps and come to the checkered flag to take the win!  Gareis finished second with Tretow third, Tyler Ledbetter fourth, and Randy Roper fifth.

The nights 20 lap Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro feature saw a rubber band type battle between Jay Dunlap and Teddy Berry for the first 10 laps.  Dunlap got the lead at the start and stretched it out on Berry the first few laps, but then Berry would close in each lap and be only a couple car lengths from Dunlap at the Dutch Miller Automotive competition caution on lap 10.  On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Kenny McComas would get around Berry by choosing the top side on the choose rule.  Berry would get back past McComas on lap 13 however and set his sights back on Dunlap.  Berry would close the gap some on Dunlap, but wouldn’t have enough as Jay Dunlap came across the checkered flag to claim his second win of the season!  Berry finished third with McComas third, Nate Dunlap fourth, and Elijah Johnson fifth.

Jason Garrett had another dominant performance in the Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car Pro feature to remain perfect on the season and claim his sixth win in a row dating back to last year!  The racing behind Garrett though was as good as it gets.  Dale Garrett and Tyler Martin engaged in an intense battle for the second position for much of the race.  On the final lap, Martin sent it into turn three to get alongside Garrett and battle side by side for the position with Martin taking the position coming to the checkered flag!  Dale Garrett finished third with Jake Keaton fourth and Adam Jeffrey fifth.

Nick Fowler took the lead to start the nights 30 lap Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR feature with Jay Workman quickly moving into the second position to set his sights on Workman.  The racing throughout the field was intense from the get go and would remain that way the entire race.  Workman would eventually catch Fowler and would make the pass on him on lap 10 to take the lead and lead the field to the Dutch Miller Automotive competition caution on lap 15.  On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Joe Workman would choose the high side on the choose and start alongside his cousin Jay.  Jay Workman would get the lead through turn one while Fowler and Workman would make contact with Workman getting sideways and Fowler spinning and a melee ensuing behind them with another 4 cars spinning.  A spinner-spinnee incident would be called with Fowler and Workman both going to the tail for the caution.

On the restart, Workman would continue with the lead while Keith Watson and Chris Deskins would put on a show with great side by side racing for the second position.  Deskins would eventually make the pass on Watson and set his sights on Workman.  Deskins wouldn’t have enough to catch Workman though as Workman would come across the checkered flag to claim his second win of the season!  Deskins finished second with Watson third, Fowler fourth, and Joe Workman fifth.

Kenny Chapman and Jason Skeens battled side by side lap after lap to start the nights 30 lap Haunted Majestic Street Stock feature.  The two were side by side nearly ever lap for the first 9 laps of the race with Chapman down low and Skeens up high.  Chapman was able to clear Skeens on lap 10 and the two would ride nose to tail until the Dutch Miller Automotive competition caution on lap 15.  On the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, Chapman and Skeens would continue their side by side battle for the lead with Skeens clearing Chapman after a couple laps of side by side racing.  Skeens would then stretch his lead out and lead the remaining laps to claim his first win of the season and first since his return back to racing!  Chapman finished second with Tommy Rowe third, Mike Christy fourth, and Amanda Gollihue fifth.

The Ona Speedway will be back in action this Saturday, June 22nd for one of the tracks biggest races of the season, the Bryce Keyser Fly By 40 presented by Freedom Used Autos featuring the Vores Compact Touring Series!  The Vores Series will be running two features, the B4 Mini Series 20 lap feature and the Fly By 40.  LG Pressure Washing Modifieds, Haunted Majestic Street Stocks, Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car Pro, Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro, and Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vics will also be on the racing card as well as the Legends Car Pro Dark Horse Dash.
