ONA, WV-After weather played havoc with racing during the month of May, race fans and drivers were treated to a perfect night for racing on Saturday, June 1st for Putnam County Bank Throwback Night and the Putnam County Bank All Star Bash.  Fans were once again treated to an exciting night of racing with an efficiently ran show as the entire night of racing was completed by 9:05 pm.

The night started with another thrilling 20 lap Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vic feature.  Leaving where they left off the last race, JR Adkins and Jamie Womack had another intense battle for the win that lasted nearly the entire race with side by side racing and some bumping all involved.  Adkins was able to hold off Womack to claim his second feature win in a row!  Womack finished second with 16 year old Karsyn Maxey finishing third in his first race and Shane McClane in fourth.

Drama occurred before the nights All Seasons Powersports Late Model feature even started when pole sitter Jim Newman had to pull off before the race went green with mechanical issues.  This moved Jake Keaton to the pole and Keaton led every lap to remain perfect on the season and claim his third feature win of the year.  Mike Burcham finished second.

Nick Fowler took the lead to start the nights 30 lap Contempo Trophy & Awards UCAR feature  The races first Dutch Miller caution flag would fly on lap two for debris on the track.  On the restart, Jay Workman used the high side to get by Fowler to lead lap two and then clear Fowler and jump on the bottom.  From there, Workman started to pull away while an intense battle occurred for third between Tim Cassidy, Joe Workman, Jake Burgroff and Keith Watson.  That battle occurred until the second and final Dutch Miller caution flag of the race would fly on lap 14 for debris on the track.  On the restart, Workman was able to continue with the lead and led the remaining laps to take his first win of the season!  Nick Fowler finished second with Keith Watson third, Jake Burgroff fourth and Tim Cassidy fifth.

Brothers Jason Garrett and Dale Garrett battled side by side for the lead to start the nights 20 lap Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car feature with Jason taking the lead.  Dale would then be involve din a tight battle for second with Jake Keaton as Keaton was able to pass Garrett on lap two and move into second.  The Dutch Miller competition caution flew on lap 10 setting up a side by side restart between Jason Garrett and Keaton.  On the restart, Garrett would continue with the lead while Keaton was back in a battle for second with Dale Garrett.  Keaton would hold onto second but the battle would cost him some time to Jason Garrett until the second Dutch Miller caution of the race would fly on lap 18 for debris, setting up a green white checkered finish.

On the restart, Keaton would stay right on Garrett’s bumper but wouldn’t have enough as Garrett came across the checkers to claim his third feature win of the season!  Keaton finished second with Dale Garrett third and Adam Jeffrey fourth.  The battle for fifth would see the two top running Semi-Pro cars in Teddy Berry and Kenny McComas battle side by side off of turn four for the Semi-Pro win with McComas getting lose and smacking the outside guardrail while the 81 year old Berry would cross the finish line in fifth.

The Putnam County Bank All Star Bash for the Haunted Majestic Street Stocks would see Marty Powers jump out to the lead with Kenny Chapman right on his tai.  As the field went through turns three and four to complete the first 10 lap segment Chapman would look low on Powers but Powers would carry high side momentum to win segment one and $125.  On the restart, Powers and Chapman resumed their battle with Chapman making the pass for the lead on lap 12!  Chapman would pull away up front while the racing for second through the field was intense.  Tommy Rowe was able to get by Powers to move into the second position while Jason Skeens passed Mike Christy to move into fourth, then Powers to move into third.  Chapman would win the second segment while Skeens was right on Rowe’s bumper for second.

This would setup a thrilling 10 lap run to the finish in the final segment.  Before the Tri-State Stoneworks restart, drama would occur as Skeens pulled off the track with a mechanical problem.  On the choose, Rowe would stay low and Powers would go high setting a restart with Chapman and Powers on the front row.  Chapman would nail the restart perfect though and lead the final 10 laps to come across the checkered flag and claim the Putnam County Bank All Star Bash and his second win on the season!  Powers finished second with Mike Christy third, Rowe fourth, and Melinda Spurlock in fifth.

Andy Booten and Jeremy Cooper battled hard at the start of the nights 25 lap LG Pressure Washing Modified feature with Booten taking the lead and Cooper right on his bumper.  The races first Dutch Miller caution would fly on lap six as both Danny Vickers and Rob Dunlap would slow and be done for the night.  On the restart, Booten and Cooper had an intense side by side battle for the lead with Cooper taking the lead using high side momentum on lap 7. Booten fighting tough on the bottom would regain the lead on lap 8.  From there, Cooper would move down to the bottom, right behind Bootens bumper.  The two battled intensely for the next several laps.  Booten would hold off Cooper and come to the checkered flag to claim his first win since 2022!  Cooper finished second with Wes Smith third, Rob Dunlap fourth, and Danny Vickers fifth.

The Ona Speedway will be in action next on Saturday, June 15th for Express Employment Professionals Kids Night.  The speedway will have inflatables setup in the midway area for the children.  The racing program will feature Baby Grand Stock Cars, All Seasons Powersports Late Models, LG Pressure Washing Modifieds, Haunted Majestic Street Stocks, Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car Pro, Three Sixteen Motorsports INEX Legends Car Semi-Pro, and Brody Nash Century 21 Crown Vics.
