ONA, WV-Coming off a successful 2022 season, the Ona Speedway is proud to release it’s 2023 schedule. For the third straight season, the schedule will consist of 14 exciting races starting with the 4th Annual Cabin Fever Bash on April 21st-22nd headlined by the Season Opener for the Midwest Modifieds Tour. Prior to Opening Weekend, the track will host two pre-season Test N’ Tune’s on April 8th and 15th.
The 4th Annual Cabin Fever Bash will be the first of four two day shows this season. The 4th Annual Firecracker Extravaganza will be back on its traditional weekend on June 23rd-24th featuring two big days of racing and a big fireworks show on Saturday, June 24th. The zMax Pro Grand National Series will also be part of the weekend for the first of two visits from the Baby Grand Stock Car’s this season.
A new two-day event will hit the speedway in August with the Summer Sizzler on August 4th-5th. That weekend will be headlined by the CRS Super Trucks on August 5th and feature two big days of racing. The annual Mountaineer 100 and Trick or Treat Night will be combined into a two-day event this season on October 27th-28th. Trick or Treat Night will take place on October 27th with a full 5 division show with trick or treat at intermission. The largest race of the season, the Mountaineer 100, will end the season on October 28th.
In addition to the Midwest Modifieds Tour and the zMax Pro Grand National Series, Ona Speedway will also welcome back the Vores Compact Touring Series and Ohio Wheelman Super Stock Series (Street Stocks). The Vores Compact Touring Series will return for the 3rd Annual Freedom Used Autos Fly By 40 on Saturday, August 19th. The Ohio Wheelman Super Stock Series will be in action on Saturday, September 9th.
Ona will welcome the zMax Pro Grand National Series Baby Grand Stock Cars for two events this season. The second event will be on Saturday, September 23rd and will be a international event for the series. September 23rd will also be the Season Championship race for the Ona Speedway weekly divisions as track champions in the weekly series will be crowned.
A major effort has been made to strengthen the schedule for the Friday night shows of two-day events. Fans will see more classes in action and racers in select classes will have opportunities to double-down and win bonus money if they can win both races in the weekend. Classes with double-down races will be the Street Stocks on April 21st-22nd and August 4th-5th, Modifieds on June 23rd-24th, and UCAR’s on April 21st-22nd and August 4th-5th.
A change has also been made to the weekly class lineup. Due to low car counts the past couple seasons, Sport Mods and Classic Cars will no longer be weekly classes at Ona but each class will get four races on the schedule this year. Both classes will be on the racing card on April 21st, June 23rd, August 4th, and October 27th. If the classes can pick up their car counts, they could see a return to the weekly schedule in 2024. Sport Mods will also be able to compete in the Modified division where they have proven to be able to compete for podium finishes with the open Modifieds.
In news that will be much celebrated, Ona Speedway has received word from American Racer officials that tire shortages should not be an issue this season. With that, additional open practice dates have made their way to the schedule for the 2023 season. Open practices will be held on Thursday, May 11th, Thursday, June 1st, Friday, August 18th, Friday, September 8th, and Friday, September 22nd.
