June 26th: JR’s Frame & Body Firecracker Extravaganza Night One

Jividen, Carey, Tolliver, Bailey win on June 26th at Ona

ONA, WV-For the first time this season, the Ona Speedway raced with fans on Friday, June 26th for night #1 of the JR’s Frame & Body Firecracker Extravaganza. A great crowd gathered on hand to watch what was a great night of racing.

Justin Shanteau and Chris Jividen battled side by side for the lead at the start of the night’s 25 lap Sport Mod feature. The two battled side by side for the first two laps of the race until Jividen made the pass on lap 2. Jividen would go on to lead the remaining laps to take his first career Ona Speedway win! Marty Powers finished second with Shanteau in third and Freddy Yates in fourth.

The night’s 20 lap Crazy Compact feature saw one of the most exciting races of the season. Donna Bush took the early race lead but immediately had pressure from Dillon Higginbottom. The two were battling side by side for the lead on lap 7 when a caution flag flew for Preston Hysell. Under the caution period, Higginbottom went to the pits with mechanical issues but was able to get those fixed and rejoined the race from the tail.

When the race resumed, that put Dustin Higginbottom into second as he immediately started battling with Bush for the lead. The two battled for several laps until Higginbottom made the pass for the lead on lap 13 with fifth place started Thomas Bailey immediately moving into the second spot. Higginbottom and Bailey then had an incredible side by side battle for the lead that lasted lap after lap.

With two laps to go, the two were still side by side for the lead until Bailey was able to use a lap car as a pick and take the race lead coming to the white flag. Bailey would lead the races final lap to come across the line and take his second feature win in a row! Dustin Higginbottom finished second with Donna Bush in third. A strong field of 8 Crazy Compacts were in attendance.

Brett Carey took the lead to start the night’s Hobby Stock feature with Kenny Chapman moving into second and Chris Jividen in third. The three battled close to each other for most of the race with Carey able to hold onto the lead. On lap 22, Jividen hit the frontstretch guardrail and cut a tire, sending him hard into the turn one guardrail. He was ok. That set up a 3 lap dash to the finish with Carey holding off challenges from Chapman to take the win! Clark Perry finished third with Bruce Thompson in fourth and Stephen Kuhn in fifth.

A red flag occurred at the start of the night’s Legends Car A-Main as Jeremy Fisher went hard into the backstretch guardrail on lap one. Fisher was ok. When the race resumed, Jason Tolliver took the lead with Thomas Crabtree running a close second. All eyes were on Jerry Inbody who was sent to the tail for the lap one caution as he stormed through the field and by lap three was in third.

As the race wore on, Tolliver was able to stretch his lead by about 6-7 car lengths as a close nose to tail battle occurred for second between Crabtree and Inbody. Coming to the white flag, Tolliver lost some ground getting around a lap car as that allowed Crabtree to close right on his rear! Tolliver was able to hold off Crabtree to take his first career Ona Speedway win with Crabtree in second, Inbody third, Tyler Martin fourth, and Tommy Rowe in fifth.
